Even the devs are asking for Simpsons: Hit & Run remaster
There are two things we want here at GGRecon, and it's disgusting. Forget your Resident Evil 4 and The Witcher 3 remakes, where are our Fallout: New Vegas and The Simpsons: Hit & Run remakes?
20 years after Radical Entertainment put us behind the wheel of the Plow King, fans are rightly asking for a Hit & Run remake. Although the franchise has dropped off in terms of video games in recent years, there's a reason Hit & Run is the highest-rated Simpsons game of all time.
The Simpsons: Hit & Run devs want a remake
Back when Grand Theft Auto was first becoming the gaming goliath it is today, Radical Entertainment cashed in on the idea by merging the automotive adventure with The Simpsons. And so was born a cult classic that has rightly earned its place in the gaming history books.
There's been plenty of talk about a mythical Hit & Run remaster or remake, and now, one of the OG devs has waded into the situation. Discussing all things Hit & Run, with GamesRadar, Designer Joe McGinn simply said, "I would love to see it."
Although the site states, "McGinn doesn't have the benefit of insight into how likely an official remake might be," that doesn't stop us from dreaming. As the generations move on, Hit & Run is locked to the GameCube, PC, PS2, and Xbox, meaning it's increasingly hard to play.
Don't get your hopes up for a Hit & Run remaster
We've already covered how one fan remade the game in less than a week, however, the notion of an official Hit & Run remake is up in the air.
The fact that Radical has been absorbed into Activision means the rights are a mess, with Producer Vlad Ceraldi admitting that they're scattered. Still, Ceraldi joins McGinn in those championing a Hit & Run remaster.
The Simpsons showrunner Matt Selman has also discussed the potential of a remake, so you have some pretty big names rallying the cause. Disney now has the rights to The Simpsons, but we've not had a game since The Simpsons: Tapped Out released in 2012.
Sadly, we're no closer to a Hit & Run remaster than we were 10 years ago. At least the recent rerelease of GoldenEye 007 proves there's money to be made in bringing old favourites back to life.
