The long-awaited crossover between FFXIV and FFXVI has finally been officially announced, and with it comes all new content, bosses, mounts, and so much more to enjoy.
Following the release of the latest mainline Final Fantasy game in June 2023, it was only a matter of time until it crossed paths with the eternally successful MMORPG - especially considering the two games share quite a significant member of staff.
FFXIV is certainly no stranger to crossovers, but this is definitely one of the most anticipated in recent times, bringing a bunch of wonderful Valisthean content to Eorzea alongside the new Viper job and Dawntrail expansion.

FFXIV x FFXVI crossover explained
Like many other collaborations in Final Fantasy XIV, the Final Fantasy 16 crossover brings content from the latest mainline entry in the series into the popular MMO, with a particular focus on the main character Clive Rosfield and a few of his closest friends.
There will likely be a new raid for players to enjoy and tackle, alongside a whole bunch of new cosmetics and mounts to deck their characters out with. There seems to be perhaps a few new skills available from Clive's arsenal, too, if the trailer is anything to go by, but we'll have to wait and see to find out more.

Are there new mounts in the FFXIV x FFXVI crossover?
Click to enlargeThe full collaboration trailer has revealed that there will be a Torgal mount that players can pick up once the FFXIV x FFXVI crossover officially begins in the MMO. While the hybrid wolf won't be quite as useful in combat as he was to Clive on his adventures, he'll still be more than a trusty sidekick as you continue your journey across Eorzea.
Furthermore, you'll also be able to get a pet in the form of baby Torgal, who is shown in the prologue of Final Fantasy XVI at a young age. There has been no better time than now to be a dog lover in Final Fantasy XIV.

Are there new bosses?
Click to enlargeThere looks to be at least one new main boss to tackle in the Final Fantasy XIV x Final Fantasy XVI crossover, as the Dominant Ifrit looks to put your skills to the test.
It's unconfirmed as of yet how this boss will take shape, and whether it will remain the only boss available, but we'll let you know once more information becomes available ahead of the collaboration launch.

Will there be more FFXIV x FFXVI crossovers in the future?
Click to enlargeFFXIV's director and producer Naoki Yoshida somewhat confirmed that while there are significant limits to the content available within the FFXIV x FFXVI crossover at launch, there is potential for involving elements later in the game in the future.
The main reason for the content primarily being centred around Clive and Torgal right now is due to the number of people who have had the chance to play the most recent mainline game. With FFXIV being a PC game first and foremost, it would make sense for further content to wait until FFXVI comes to PC so players can experience that story before it becomes available in the MMO.
There is no guarantee that more content will arrive from FFXVI after this initial crossover, but with Yoshi-P being heavily involved in both games, it'd be quite a surprise.
