Fans have picked a favourite to play Zelda in upcoming movie - and she's interested too
News of a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie rocked the gaming industry after years of rumours of adaptations coming from all over the place - but now that we have confirmation that it's officially in the works after the many successes of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, fans are scheming.
Naturally, fans are incredibly protective. The series has been a highlight of Nintendo's output for decades at this point, and as it finds its high point in Breath of the Wild and its sequel, the stakes have never been higher.
Fans have got their floppy, green fancasting caps on as they theorise what this movie could officially look like, and as it turns out, their Zelda is interested too.
Hunter Schafer is interested in playing Zelda
It looks like our fan cast dreams could be closer to reality than we think, as Zelda fans' favourite Hunter Schafer has commented on the idea of playing Zelda in the live-action version of The Legend of Zelda.
The Euphoria star spoke on the red carpet of her latest film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes with the press who asked her about the potential of stepping into Hyrule - and it looks like she's pretty keen.
“That would be so cool,” says Schafer of the idea of bringing Zelda to life. “I love the game, personally. I played it as a kid and I still play it now. Who knows! That would be pretty cool.”
It's a good time for her to be sharing her interest for sure, but this isn't the first time that she's spoken about the potential of becoming the princess of Hyrule.
Hunter Schafer wanted to play Zelda even before the movie announcement
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the actress responded well to the idea of playing Zelda back in 2022 on a Euphoria red carpet.
Hearing of a fan cast on TikTok, Schafer said "wow! I mean yeah, that'd be cool. [...] I played that game when I was a kid, it was such a good game."
She referred to Zelda as an Elf when it first came up, which has rubbed many super-nerds the wrong way - but there's little doubt that Zelda is a role that Schafer would own entirely. Now we just need a Link.
