Abberant Cinders are the key to unlocking most of the Season 4 content in Diablo 4, but it isn't exactly clear how to get them in-game, nor is it obvious how to check how many you currently have.

If you're anything like me you'll want to constantly grind them in order to work your way towards the Blood Maiden, and thankfully I've laid out everything you need to master the currency right here.

How to get & farm Abberant Cinders

Abberant Cinders are dropped by enemies and from interactable objects within the Helltide - but from what I can gather they are largely still a random drop, especially with standard enemies.

Taking on any of the big groups of enemies patrolling the Helltide typically got me around 5 Abberant Cinders, so it didn't take too long to get the coveted 100.

I found that the best way to farm Abberant Cinders was to focus on boss-type enemies, as they drop anywhere between 10 and 20 on their own, alongside the drops from the smaller enemies surrounding them.

Generally, you're going to want to try and fight as many enemies as possible in a short amount of time in order to raise your Helltide Threat level, as maxing it out will spawn a massive ambush that'll earn you a tonne of Abberant Cinders.

Here's how to check how many Abberant Cinders you have

When I first entered the Helltide I found it confusing to know how many Abberant Cinders I had at any one time, but looking to the top right of your screen you should be able to see a flaming triangle shape with a number underneath - this is your current Abberant Crystal count.

This will be underneath the Helltide timer, and next to the icon for Baneful Hearts, so make sure to keep an eye on that in order to see how far away you are from your next Tortured Gift.

What are Abberant Cinders used for?

Abberant Cinders only have one use in Diablo 4 Season 4, and that is to open any of the Tortured Gift of Mysteries dotted around the Helltide.

These Tortured Gifts are special chests unique to the demonic region, giving you a chance to earn high-tier loot or even Baneful Hearts if you're looking to challenge the Blood Maiden.

You'll need 100 Abberant Cinders to open each chest, so make sure that you're constantly fighting enemies to earn enough to keep the items flowing.
