How many people play Diablo 4 in 2024? Player count for Season 4 explained

With Season 3 of Diablo 4 now over and the Season of Loot in full swing, I've taken a look at the player count estimates to find out how the game is doing. So far, Diablo 4 has had its ups and downs, with some seasons looked on more favourably than others.

As it stands, Season 3 was one of the lower points for the game, and although Season 4 seems to have had a strong start, with a whole host of tuning and content updates, the game is sadly still trending downwards.

Player count for Diablo 4 Season 4

Blizzard doesn’t release its player number figures directly, but according to estimates from Active Player, Diablo 4 has had an active player count of 4,169,527 users in the last 30 days.

This is a drop of -148,542 players in the last 30 days, which takes into account the first few weeks of Season 4. That said, looking at a website like SteamDB - which tracks live Steam player numbers - the game reached an all-time peak on June 6, showing that there's still some popularity on PC platforms.

Of course, this is only Steam and many players will have and play on different launchers and platforms - but it gives a more up-to-date understanding of the current status.

As you can see from the table above, Diablo 4 saw a significant rise in players between the end of 2023 and the start of 2024, hitting just over 5 million players with a 500,000 increase. This was followed by a massive drop of over 1.3 million players in February, the biggest loss month over month the game has had so far.

Daily player count figures

In terms of daily figures, Diablo 4 has also seen a peak average of 1.13 million players at any one time in the last 30 days, which is trending downwards compared to Season 3.

It's worth noting that these figures account for players on every platform, including PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. Diablo 4 player counts on individual platforms will be lower, although the game does support crossplay.

Diablo 4 Twitch viewership data

According to TwitchTracker.com, Diablo 4 hit its lowest viewership in September 2023, with an average of just 1.2K concurrent views. The viewership has since improved, however, with an average of 11,196 viewers tuning in in the last seven days.

These numbers do tend to fall off near the end of a season so the drops in early May weren't out of the ordinary.

Is Diablo 4 a dead game?

Based on the numbers, it would appear that we can’t call Diablo 4 a 'dead game' just yet. I usually define whether a game is dead by taking into account the following factors:

• Is the daily player count high enough so that you can play with others without waiting in a queue?
• Is the game still being supported with new content from its developer?

On both of those fronts, it's very easy to find other players to squad up with due to the crossplay nature of its gameplay. What's more, the game is still receiving very regular content updates, with rolling seasonal content and a new expansion pack slated for later in 2024.

Despite the huge drop in numbers since the beginning of Season 2, the game has seemingly clawed a large portion of its audience back, especially with the ongoing support of Season 4.
