GTA 6 isn’t confirmed for PC yet, here’s why
The world of video games and beyond came to a halt when the first trailer for GTA 6 was revealed, but fans were left with inevitable questions regarding the game's confirmation for PC.
Rockstar and PC gaming have had a rather complicated relationship, with delayed launches for huge titles like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, and Rockstar's decision to completely forgo a PC version of the first RDR. So, understandably PC players are a little concerned about GTA 6's status for them, and recent information hasn't done much to quell those fears.
Press release suggests no GTA 6 PC version at launch
As first noticed by Evan Lahti on Twitter, a press release from Rockstar itself in Business Wire appears to indicate that GTA 6 is only arriving on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S when it launches in 2025.
The release details that "Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to PlayStation 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems in 2025."
While PC gaming is not unified under a single company or system like consoles so wouldn't necessarily work under this framing, it does certainly line up with previous games (and player expectations) that the game would not be making its way to PC at launch.
There is no mention of platforms within the trailer itself, and currently no confirmation either way from Rockstar explicitly about a PC release, but this does seem to indicate that players outside of the console ecosystem might have to wait just a little bit longer to jump in.
Will GTA 6 come to PC in the future?
While nothing has been confirmed either way so far, it would be incredibly surprising to see Rockstar pass up the opportunity to bring what is arguably their biggest game ever to the PC platform.
While they did take a while, both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 have been incredibly successful on PC, as the two titles sold well and have maintained strong player bases since their launch.
While you can always point to the lack of Red Dead Redemption on PC, that does seem more like an anomaly in the grand scheme of things instead of a trend to point towards.
What is most likely going to hold the PC release up if it is separate from consoles is both modding support and enhanced graphical capabilities - two things that console players will not have access to.
There is certainly a big chunk of players who would rather just have access to the game at launch, these two features are a huge part of why GTA is so successful as a series on PC and will take additional development time to build.
Hopefully we will find out more about the status of GTA 6's PC version in the near future, but while you wait there's no better place to be than our GTA homepage, where you can see the latest things arriving in the GTA Online weekly update, and all of the treasure hunt locations too.
