Red Dead Redemption fans brace for rumoured PC port to be daylight robbery

Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption is one of the leading games in the narrative world for a reason, and after years of being one of Rockstar's premier titles paid off, it's one of the most iconic video game titles in history. Strangely, the game never made it to PC.

Red Dead Redemption found itself stranded on consoles at launch, and even with new-gen ports, it still hasn't made the jump to players on PC. This has driven them bonkers with mod ideas they've never had the chance to execute - come on, we need the ability to create our own Undead Nightmare. 

Now, fresh rumours are swirling that the time for a Red Dead Redemption PC port is finally here. Its potential has been somewhat overshadowed as players brace for the worst after seeing how willing Rockstar is to put out old games with new price tags.

Red Dead Redemption's PC port rumours could come with a huge cost

Rockstar insider Tez2 claims a Red Dead Redemption PC is coming, with dataminers digging deep into Rockstar's launcher file site. It's a supersized claim that has delighted many fans, with some begrudgingly adding that its arrival is better 14 years late than never, but others are bracing for a real impact.

Gamers have taken to X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit to point out that Rockstar's previous willingness to charge full price for Red Dead Redemption's Nintendo Switch port suggests the developer can do the same here.

Reducing the rumour's excitement to irritation over a frustrating reshelling of a 14-year-old game for $60/£60, one user demanded that "after all this time this better be no more than €30." Someone else said, "Watch it be full-priced," while a third concluded, "Releasing old games instead of just making something new 💀 this is why gaming is so dead rn."

Fans are right in that it's a little late for Rockstar to start rolling out the red carpet for the beloved cowboy caper, and they're going to be furious to have to pay current prices for it. Let's face it, they almost definitely will pay for it just to see what's new - if anything. 

The implication of modding the hell out of Red Dead is too much for some to resist, and players will take any excuse to take John Marston's story for another spin. We can act annoyed all we like, but if we do nothing about it, can we expect Rockstar to change? Our money is on "no."
